Kumite - Sparring
There are very few winners…
It is not where you go, but how you get there
16th Century Samurai
Kumite (sparring) is divided into various categories of pre-arranged sparring. It is essential that the attack is strong at all times. He/she should exercise control when aiming for the face, but some contact ought to be made if possible when attacking the mid-section.
On no account should the defender follow through and make contact. After blocking, he/she should focus his/her counter-attack just short of the target.
